Hail fellows, well met! It's been a while since our last update here, hasn't it? November 2007, when we resigned from serious raiding, was over a year and a half ago now; and this month marks the second anniversary of my last day actively leading Reason.
The forums, however, have been far from silent. People have stayed in touch, even though in game we've many of us gone our separate ways. A sizeable contingent set up on Bonechewer and then Drak'tharon as Horde. Several of us went on to join and even lead other hardcore guilds. Many of us just quit outright, and went out into the real world and now have things we didn't have before: houses, university degrees, wives, exciting three-letter job titles that start with a C and end with an O, photos of exotic vacation destinations. And most of us were happy with this, if not perhaps a bit nostalgic for Reason at times.
A few months into Wrath of the Lich King, however, something changed; I don't know what, exactly. Perhaps the stagnating raid scene before Ulduar acted as a catalyst for the events of the past few weeks, drawing people further from their new homes, deeper into dissatisfaction. Perhaps the launch of Ulduar made it apparent that a lot of people were surrounded by worse players than they'd realized. Or maybe the time commitments of raiding just got too much for the people who are graduating this semester (although, I don't know if anyone in guild actually was in school this year). Whatever the reason, the boards lit up several weeks ago.
Simultaneously, several of us had started toying with the idea of reincarnating Reason in a format somewhat similar to what we had before. A somewhat hardcore guild that was still fairly well rooted in casual sensibility.
What a mess to define! Reason always flirted with the two polarities, casual and hardcore, and tended to fall in about three quarters of the way to hardcore. Heavy raid schedules, and progression-driven, but still accepting of those with a less heavy schedule.
Our new concept, however, is perhaps a bit better defined: a guild planning on raiding only a few nights a week, but expecting of our players the skill, calibre and game-knowledge you'd find in a hardcore guild. And so we introduce Motive, of Ner'zhul.
We decided to settle on Ner'zhul for a few key Reasons (see what I did there?):
* High overall population
* Strong, high-volume economy
* High concentration of decent raiding guilds
* Generally above average PUG scene
* Negligible lag during our primary hours
We have no pretensions of being an omfg-server-first guild, of course; rather we are content to play to the best of our ability in a low-stress environment. Minimising the overhead of silliness and drama, dealing with "bads", and wiping a lot because the aforementioned don't understand that you shouldn't stand in the big purple circles on the ground.
At this point we have brought back nearly 10 players raiding "full time" on our schedule, as well as a handful more on a very casual schedule. We're quite keen to bring in more that share an ideology with us though. If you know us from our days on Kael'Thas (or our ancient pre-history on Eldre'Thalas), you used to play with any of us, or even just wandered onto this site from god-knows-where, do come look us up on Ner'zhul.
While I'm currently unavailable, due to being on some weird island full of Asian people, you can contact one of the following for more information:
* Frosted; Frosted on Ner'zhul
* Rampage (aka Lilu, Rolin); Iyre on Ner'zhul
* Yamato; Makyle on Ner'zhul
Or just post here on the forums.
