Being slowed down is not something we're used to. We've been on Huhuran for a month now and it was the first time we've ever felt limited by our gear and time on the server. We've taken almost every green dragon kill since we started Blackwing Lair and still experienced a crippling lack of NR gear on the raid. It's certainly not that our execution of the fight was flawed, it was just that our extremely young raiding lifetime was beginning to show. This was clear to us a couple weeks ago with a series of extremely consistent (and rather disheartening) 7-10% wipes. We knew we had the fight down; we just didn't have the right gear or right raid composition for it, or something.. Today it just clicked. A healthy raid composition, coupled with several weeks of Maraudon farming and AH camping, resulted into a dead queen bee.
Now in spite of our victory over this encounter I'm still under the impression that it's stupid. Fortunately the biggest cause of this stupidity, the lack of NR itemization, is being remedied in the 1.11 patch and the fight should become far more accessible to guilds that haven't been farming the green dragons since their birth. While heavy resist fights don't seem that fun to most people this should at least make it less of a strain and immense frustration.
Bitter ranting aside, this kill was one of the most rewarding we've experienced just because of how long we were stuck on it. After a chorus of cheers over Vent and dividing up the loot we wrapped up the night by pulling the rather exciting trash after Huhuran. They're almost exactly the same as the AQ20 trash before Ossirian, just substantially less forgiving. They shouldn't give us too much trouble from what we saw of our first pull; we should be playing with the Emperors later this week. :)
