After finally stomping Faerlina last night we ventured back into Naxxramas to give Maexxna a shot. Ultimately we spent even less time learning Maexxna than either of the earlier, supposedly easier bosses, based off of drop ilvl at least. Maexxna is a neat fight that really works every aspect of your raid. Healers are required to be pre-meditative and very alert. Casters and hunters are put to the test here especially, and while poor players in your ranged ranks may not wipe the raid immediately they'll certainly prevent you from beating the encounter. Lastly tank gear is tested a bit as well, although this is easily compensated for with consumables, and a bit of skill.
One thing that bothered me about this fight is that it has very little need for more than one off tank, other than as a safety net. This is something that previous Naxx fights handled very well. Any more than two prot warriors on this fight would really be a waste of a slot, so if your off tanks have DPS or healer alts they'd be put to good use here, even if they are a bit undergeared. This is certainly the first fight in Naxxramas where you could potentially make do with only one tank, and I really think it's poor design since if you build your raid composition around the other fights, you're going to end up with 4 guys sitting around wishing they were 31/5/15 here.
Ultimately a much more entertaining encounter than Faerlina. Also Maexxna's room looks really cool.
