Plague Wing Clear!

Plague Wing Clear!

Mushrooms for dinner this week.

We finally finished off the Plague Wing of Naxxramas tonight, getting our first Loatheb kill. Actual execution of the fight is amazingly simple, almost certainly the easiest in Naxxramas. That said it's still been one of the slowest kills in the zone for us because of how heavily it relies on both consumables and raid composition. Loatheb has a simply stunning DPS requirement. Loatheb has around 5 million HP, and you have just over 5 minutes to kill him, so the target ends up being around 15000 raid DPS. Now you have a huge buff to your critical hit rate for most of the fight, but even then it's not a simple thing to put out that much damage. As if the demand on damage consumables wasn't quite enough, Loatheb also casts heavy area of effect shadow damage spell that healers aren't able to deal with on their own, so we need to resort to using 120 Greater Shadow Protection Potions per kill. So now you all know why we were buying massive quantities of Fadeleaf and Grave Moss. The cost of killing this stupid mushroom was even higher than that of killing Patchwerk.

Cost complaints aside, the healing aspect is really interesting, as people can only cast one healing spell per minute in this fight. The side effect of this is that our healers get to spend about 90% of their time on this fight as damage dealers.

Ultimately for the final kill, we went and got an Onyxia Head buff, 10% damage buffs from the Darkmoon Faire, and nearly full damage boosting consumables otherwise as well.

Viscidus Down!
Viscidus Down!

In other news, we finally went back and killed Viscidus in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Yes, yes, I know, old content. He's an optional boss, that drops subpar loot for how hard he is, but we wanted to kill him just to get it done with so we spent the tail end of a night on him, when we'd just finished up with C'Thun. Indeed the fight ended up being one of the hardest in the zone, and getting mostly the same stuff we get from killing Princess Huhuran seems a bit unrewarding. At least he's dead now.
